This history preserves the anonymized wording and earlier written responses in the imported project records. Earlier responses may describe a previous design or contain wording now under review. Use the linked consolidated question for the current response status.

A source record can contain several questions. These records are not a count of individual submissions or people. Original messages and dates are still being reconciled; this history does not establish that every project submission has been captured.

Public Community Meeting #1 · July 8, 2026Is this facility selling back to the National Grid, or using the facility to store their power? How is that a business?

Earlier published response

The facility buys power from the grid when demand is low and prices are cheap, and then sells it back during peak periods when prices are higher. It also regulates the voltage and frequency of the transmission lines. You can think of it like a water tower, which stores water to maintain steady water pressure. The battery facility does the same thing for the grid.

A written response is recorded. Sending an individual reply, considering feedback, and making a design change require separate evidence.

  • What kind of owner buys it, and how does it make money?
Individual reply: not confirmed. Consideration: not recorded. Design change: not confirmed.
Community Public Forum · September 30, 2026Who develops it, and who will own it?

Earlier published response

ESA develops the project. We find the site, design it, get the permits, and do the community engagement. We will not be the long-term owner. A company that can build and operate it will take it over, and no owner has been chosen yet. The permits, bonds, and agreements go with the project to that owner.

Community Public Forum · September 30, 2026What kind of owner buys a project like this, and what do they get out of it?

Earlier published response

An owner could be a utility, an infrastructure fund, or an energy company. We cannot name any, because none has been selected. Owners earn money in three main ways: charging the battery when power is cheap and selling it when power is expensive, payments for being available when the grid needs backup, and services that keep the grid balanced second by second.
