This history preserves the anonymized wording and earlier written responses in the imported project records. Earlier responses may describe a previous design or contain wording now under review. Use the linked consolidated question for the current response status.

A source record can contain several questions. These records are not a count of individual submissions or people. Original messages and dates are still being reconciled; this history does not establish that every project submission has been captured.

Website and email Β· September 10, 2026, 8:30 AM ETI truly believe building the data center will make Charlton an unlivable place. It will cause air and light pollution, water waste, very unnecessary noise, everyone will be paying a higher tax for this and no one even wants it. The response I'm assuming a lot of people are getting when they says data center is it is not a data center but as other documents, people post from out of state where they build these things proves it starts off as an energy storage and becomes a data center. I personally think carpenter hill has beautiful view for seeing stars, sunsets, watching the fireworks from tree house, if this center gets built it's destroying all this beauty to Charlton. Charlton does not need an energy storage/data center facility.

Earlier written draft (answers as of October 7, 2026)

Data center. No, this is not a data center. Carpenter Hill Power is a battery storage facility. It stores electricity from the grid and releases it when demand is high. It does not generate power or burn fuel. The only data processed is for monitoring and controlling the operation of the system.

Air, water, and noise. In normal operation the facility gives off no smoke or emissions. Water use details have not been published. The main sound in operation is a steady hum from the cooling units, inverters, and transformers, and the sound study is in progress.

Light and views. A lighting plan has not been published. Night sky, screening, and noise for close neighbors are Community Benefits Plan topics under discussion. The equipment is under 10 feet tall and set back from homes, and existing trees are kept for screening where possible. It is still industrial equipment on a rural parcel.

Taxes. The town is expected to receive standard property taxes or a payment in lieu of taxes negotiated with the town. Tax and assessment research is in progress, and no figures have been published.
