This history preserves the anonymized wording and earlier written responses in the imported project records. Earlier responses may describe a previous design or contain wording now under review. Use the linked consolidated question for the current response status.

A source record can contain several questions. These records are not a count of individual submissions or people. Original messages and dates are still being reconciled; this history does not establish that every project submission has been captured.

Public Community Meeting #1 · July 8, 2026What is the expected lifespan of the project?

Earlier published response

The system itself is built to last more than 20 years. Because batteries naturally degrade, we will swap out or add LFP battery modules over time to keep the facility running at full capacity.

  • How long do the batteries last, and are they recycled?

Public Community Meeting #1 · July 8, 2026How do we dispose of the batteries at the end of their life?

Earlier published response

We address the entire lifecycle of the batteries upfront. Siting regulations require us to submit a formal decommissioning plan to the town and state before construction. The project owner must post a decommissioning bond, which is a financial deposit held by the town to cover all removal costs. At the end of the facility's operating life, the owner will disassemble the units and transport the batteries to certified recycling facilities. Companies like Redwood Materials and Li-Cycle can recover more than 95% of the metals in these cells, including the lithium, copper, and aluminum, to manufacture new batteries. We will then restore the leased land to its original, vegetated condition.

Website and email · July 6, 2026, 12:21 PM ETWhat is the lifespan of the batteries? Are they recycled after their termination?

Earlier written draft (answers as of October 7, 2026)

The facility is planned for an operating life of 20 to 35 years. The batteries use lithium iron phosphate, which has no cobalt or nickel. Recovery rates vary by component and processor, and the recycling industry is likely to look different when the facility is decommissioned. A decommissioning plan is required and is filed with the application, covering removal and disposition. Verification of the final disposition of the batteries will be built into the decommissioning conditions. The decommissioning bond is posted before construction.

Website and email · August 4, 2026What percentage of each battery system is actually recyclable today, where will the batteries be sent, and who will verify their final disposition?

Earlier written draft (answers as of October 7, 2026)

Recovery rates vary by component and by processor, and the recycling industry will likely look different by the time this facility is decommissioned decades from now. What is committed is a decommissioning plan, filed with the application, covering removal and disposition. Verification of final battery disposition is a specific requirement we will build into the decommissioning conditions.
