This history preserves the anonymized wording and earlier written responses in the imported project records. Earlier responses may describe a previous design or contain wording now under review. Use the linked consolidated question for the current response status.

A source record can contain several questions. These records are not a count of individual submissions or people. Original messages and dates are still being reconciled; this history does not establish that every project submission has been captured.

Earlier published response

Battery systems are tested to UL 9540A, the standard test method for thermal runaway fire propagation. It runs at four levels: the cell, the module, the full unit, and the installed layout. In the larger tests, a fully loaded unit is forced into thermal runaway, and the neighboring units, placed at the real spacing, are monitored to confirm the fire does not spread to them. NFPA 855, the national standard for installing these systems, uses these test results to set requirements such as the spacing between units. The Megapack 2 and 2XL were tested this way, and the results are in the Fire Protection Engineering report in the Document Library. The test reports for the newer Megapack 3 are still being collected, and we will post them as they are released.

How the issues were handled

A written response is recorded. Sending an individual reply, considering feedback, and making a design change require separate evidence.
